MedSteps5 2026: Community spirit shines on the Rock
Chestertons is proud to celebrate the success of this year’s MedSteps5 Challenge, which took place on Saturday 9th May in support of Cancer Relief Gibraltar.
Just over 600 participants took on the iconic Mediterranean Steps route, once again showing why this event has become such a cherished fixture in Gibraltar’s community calendar.
Whether completing one lap or pushing themselves to all five, participants of all ages and abilities came together with a shared purpose: to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Relief Gibraltar and the vital work it carries out for patients and families in our community.
Current funds raised stand at just shy of £25,000, with donations still coming in and Chestertons was delighted to play its part by hosting registrations at our Ocean Village office, helping raise £4,000 through registration fees alone.
This year’s challenge also produced some remarkable individual stories. Chestertons’ friend Ken Johnson, aged 88, set a new record as the oldest person ever to take part; Dylan Gomez completed all five laps on crutches, and the event also saw a participant as young as 10 complete all five rounds. Together, these achievements captured the determination, resilience and community spirit at the heart of MedSteps5.
Chestertons was also proudly represented on the route, with Paul, Katya and Mitchell all completing the full five rounds.
As proud lead sponsor, Chestertons is honoured to support an event that brings Gibraltar together in such a powerful way. The MedSteps5 Challenge is not only about the physical effort of climbing the Rock; it is about compassion, resilience and community spirit.
Our thanks go to Mark Cooper, the HM Prison team, Cancer Relief Gibraltar, the volunteers, sponsors, supporters and every participant who helped make this year’s event such a success.
Congratulations to everyone who took part or donated. Once again, Gibraltar stepped up.
