In the press conference on Monday 23 March 2020, the Minister of Employment Gilbert Licudi gave the following update:

  • Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures
  • Restriction of movement extended to all persons from midnight tonight
  • Still able to work from home or if essential, at the place or work and, for example repairs and maintenance
  • Aim is to slow the spread of the virus to protect the GHA
  • Package of measures for employers, employees and self-employed individuals is nearly ready to publish
  • The following schools remain open to children of those that need to go to work where no other child supervision is available, plus St Martin's pupils and vulnerable children - Notre Dame, St Anne's, Westside, Bayside
  • Mew home learning education facility is now available - further details are on www.education.gov.gi

Meanwhile the Gibraltar Society of Accounts has advised that it has received a communication from the Income Tax Office advising that penalties in relation to late filing are to be waived. The waiver includes penalties that would be issued in relation to the immediate filing obligations regarding March submissions (i.e. the £50, £300 and £500 penalties for the various stages of late filing that would be issued on this submission). This waiver does not extend to earlier submission deadlines nor to surcharges imposed on the late payment of taxes due.

Further extensions may be considered as necessary and will be advised accordingly in advance of the material time.

Meanwhile, with effect from tomorrow, Tuesday 24th March, Chestertons is open by prior appointment only between 10am and 4pm for essential accommodation requirements.  We may be contacted on +350 200 40041 or email us on info@chestertons.gi which will remain active throughout this period for all enquiries of whatever nature.
