Off Plan Development - Bourne Place
About Bourne Place
Bourne Place Bourne Place is the development of 10 west facing properties in the Upper Town of Gibraltar. The properties are being derived from an extensive restoration, redevelopment and sympathetic extension of an existing property in Flat Bastion Road. Each apartment benefits from a fully fitted kitchen and bathroom, which is to be supplied by Porcelanosa. Proseal Construction Limited is the contactor responsible for undertaking the renovation and refurbishment of the building. The company is a Gibraltar Heritage winning company and they have previously worked on several Government projects, commercial projects and high quality private houses. Bourne Place is located just a short walk from Main Street, O’Callaghan Eliott Hotel , St Bernard’s Middle School and the new independent senior school, Prior Park, which opens in September 2016. Work began in January 2016 and it set to take about 18 months to complete. Flat Bastion Road is locally known as “Cuesta de Mr. Bourne” after a blacksmith, Mr. Bourne, who opened his forge in 1830 in this part of Gibraltar, which is where the Bourne Place development’s name has derived from. The history of the area is encapsulated in this modern redevelopment. Chestertons acted as the developer’s sole agent.
About the location
Gibraltar is steeped in history, culture and diversity – did you know the skull of a Neanderthal woman was discovered here in 1848 and was only the second Neanderthal skull ever found and the first adult Neanderthal skull to be discovered, eight years before the discovery of the skull for which the species was named in Neanderthal! The upper town offers a treat for anyone wanting to learn more about Gibraltar’s history or just explore the Rock. Including St Michael’s Cave, the Moorish Castle, the Great Siege Tunnels & WWII tunnels, Princess Caroline’s Battery and, of course, not forgetting the Apes Den.
