Chestertons Gibraltar CEO Mike Nicholls will take part in The Big Sleep at St Paul’s Cathedral on 26 June 2026, raising funds for Alabaré, a charity supporting people facing homelessness, including military veterans rebuilding their lives.

The overnight fundraising event, held inside the iconic London cathedral, will see participants sleep out in support of veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This year’s event carries additional significance as participants will wake on Armed Forces Day, creating a symbolic moment of reflection and support for those who have served.

Mike has set an initial fundraising target of £5,000.

Speaking about his decision to take part, Mike said:

“This is not a cause I have chosen lightly, in truth it feels as though this event was made for me.

Professionally, my life revolves around homes and property, so homelessness is the starkest possible reminder of why home matters. Supporting a charity that helps vulnerable people rebuild their lives and regain stability feels especially important.

There is also a strong Gibraltar connection. Alabaré has previously brought veterans it supports to Gibraltar to work on restoration projects at Lord Airey’s Battery, so this is a charity whose work has already touched our community.

Finally, St Paul’s Cathedral itself means a great deal to me personally. I sang there as a child, my graduation was held there, and I have attended services there over the years. To support this cause in that setting feels deeply meaningful.”

Founded on Christian principles, Alabaré provides more than emergency accommodation, focusing on long-term rehabilitation through housing, trauma-informed support and pathways back to independent living.

The charity estimates that between 200 and 300 veterans are sleeping rough in the UK at any one time, underlining the ongoing need for specialist support services.

Chestertons is proud to support charitable and community initiatives both in Gibraltar and beyond where this is a Gibraltar connection.
