With Gibraltar currently under a heatwave alert, it’s a reminder of the importance of protecting your skin and checking for early signs of skin cancer.

Two years ago, inspired by CEO’s Mike Nicholls' diagnosis, Chestertons donated a state-of-the-art Mole Mapping machine to the Specialist Medical Clinic to help bring world-class dermatological screening to Gibraltar. The equipment is now fully operational at GibMed Hospital, providing advanced mole screening to detect potential skin cancers at the earliest and most treatable stages. Each use of the machine results in a donation to Gibraltar’s Cancer Relief.

“As temperatures rise and sun exposure increases, we urge everyone to be proactive about their skin health,” said Mike Nicholls. “Early detection is key, and we’re proud to have played a role in making this technology accessible here in Gibraltar.”

The initiative has already raised over £14,000 for Gibraltar Cancer Relief, further reinforcing Chestertons’ long-standing commitment to community wellbeing.

GibMed Hospital continues to develop its Dermatology Department, led by Consultant Dermatologist Dr Burd and Clinical Nurse Specialist Nuria Campos. The mole mapping service is available to all and has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from patients.

Mike added: “We encourage residents to take advantage of this service, whether for peace of mind or as part of a regular health check. Skin cancer is often highly treatable if caught early. With the right tools now in place, there’s no reason to wait.”
