Gibraltar’s Mole Mapping service, delivered through a collaboration between Chestertons and GibMed Hospital, has now raised £17,000 for Cancer Relief Gibraltar since launching in May 2023.

The state-of-the-art mole scanning technology, donated by Chestertons, allows clinicians to digitally record and monitor patients’ moles over time, helping to identify early changes that may indicate skin cancer. Early detection has already led to the discovery of numerous suspicious lesions, further reinforcing the service’s clinical value.

Now fully operational at GibMed Hospital, the equipment forms an important part of the hospital’s expanding Dermatology Department, led by Consultant Dermatologist Dr Burd.

“We are incredibly proud to see this project delivering both clinical benefits and charitable support,” said Mike Nicholls, CEO of Chestertons. “This has always been a partnership effort, and the results show what can be achieved when local organisations come together for the wellbeing of the community.”

GibMed Hospital echoed the significance of the initiative.

Because Gibraltar enjoys a sunny climate with consistently high UV levels, the mole mapping service offers residents an important opportunity to proactively monitor their skin health, providing both peace of mind and the potential for early diagnosis.
