Ever since the lockdown started we have clapped and cheered our essential services at 8pm every night with great passion, gusto and heartfelt thanks to our deserving heroes. Around the same time you may also notice a team of fast moving workers dressed in bright fluorescent yellow, hopping from bin room to bin room emptying refuse skips into the back of a hungry smelly refuse truck. If you do catch sight of them perhaps the first thing that springs to mind is “how can anyone do that”? Our throw away items have been handled by all of us meaning that Covid-19 is a real ever present danger, however this doesn’t faze them at all from keeping our streets and estates clean.
Chestertons and Ramsons teamed up to give our refuse collectors and their families an Easter treat to say thank you on behalf of our community. We expect the 100 family bars of Cadbury’s, tons of mini-eggs and multiple boxes of Boule D’Or will be consumed by our refuse collectors this weekend. Because they deserve our thanks too.
Brian Catania (acting manager) commented that in 30 years they have never received thank you gifts and really appreciated the chocolate treats.
Mike Nicholls commented “That was great teamwork with our friends at Ramsons to give something back to another section of the public service whose jobs have just become more dangerous. Sometimes superheroes dress in high viz vests, overalls and steel toe capped boots. Happy Easter guys”.
