Post referendum - clients' reactions - part 2 Image

Following our article entitled What happens next? we received further comments from clients.  These are reproduced below unedited.  No names have been or will be attributed to the comments to ensure client confidentiality.

I have enjoyed Mike's recent updates and am glad to hear something other than gloom and doom around the place.  We are all aware of the uncertainty which is around at present, and all we can do is stay positive and make the best of things!

If Brexit happens, then I think Gibraltar is going to be an attractive place for UK remainers to retire in the sun.  Gibraltar should capitalise on the fact that the Country is 96% United and place adverts in the UK.  ‘GIBRALTAR 96% UNITED WELCOMES ALL LIKE MINDED REMAINERS TO MOVE TO GIBRALTAR. Low taxes, no VAT, no inheritance tax, 300 days of sunshine a year.’

Mike very interesting and timely newsletters.

Just thought I should mention I thoroughly enjoyed your newsletter in the Chronicle following the unexpected Brexit vote.  It set the absolutely right and bullish tone, reaffirming our often repeated belief in reinvention. There are, of course, likely to be many more twists and turns in this extraordinary episode. The “exit” may end up looking somewhat different to the notion signed up to by many who voted Leave. But whatever the outcome, the landscape has undoubtedly altered in a very significant fashion for Europe, the UK and us.  Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

This is all good stuff. Thank you. I think that the format is attractive and the punchy and mostly news worthy. Well done.

********************

I really found your news item post Brexit useful and positive and I am happy to continue to read your updates and foresights.

********************

Thank you Mike, a realistic and thoughtful approach with encouragement.

I think Gibraltar will be fine and adapt well if the exit actually happens – it has a long way to go. Short term I think there is going to be a huge property shortage in Gibraltar which should be good news for you guys As a Firm we are committed to staying in Gibraltar

I agree with all you say. There are always opportunities in every situation. I may sell the car and buy another power boat !!I have always been more concerned as to what would have happened should we have stayed in.!

********************

Do not worry it's not all doom and gloom. No more stupid regulations. This should be the perfect opportunity to attract investments from all other nations including China, Brazil and even India. Ask yourself would you now put funds into Panama or Gibraltar?

********************

Gibraltar needs a super marina, tax free for all but Gibraltar needs to start building high quality not just thrown up as many are!

Thanks for your comprehensive comments. Spain is once again under a right wing control albeit the left does have some relevant input. I feel that Gibraltar will have some benefits from the English living in Spain as the euro now has an increased value against sterling. In addition we can expect a stronger demand for taxes and regulations against the English residents in Spain and so Gib can be a potential future refuge.

This is the only email / report circulated to me about Gibraltar despite all my associations and connections so I thank you . I've been reaching out for updates and views, from London, with zero reaction.

Nice summary of where we're at Mike, you've clearly been glued to the news as much as we have since Thurs/Fri. I am buoyed by your ambitious suggestions as to what Gib can do going forward. I'd add that another group it should start appealing directly to are internet businesses, where the tax breaks here make it a great place to be based for trading digital goods worldwide, and in/out of the EU isn't as far as I can tell going to have any effect on this. Interesting, and not necessarily gloomy, times ahead.

Good stuff Mike, positive focussed and seeking out the opportunity….let’s hope for a new UK government and referendum overturning….

Your articles are good. Enjoy reading them. Good ideas

Wise words, Mike and some great ideas. I for one might suggest that the monthly pension income of £5k, you mention for Brits tax incentives could be reduced even further, as many (ourselves included) are not particularly wealthy but nonetheless have chosen to retire here, for whatever reason.

********************

Thanks for the property update. I also see no reason why Gib should not continue to thrive. A positive outlook is always good to read.

Enjoying your commentary Mike.

I omitted to congratulate you on your excellent article relating to the provision of private medical services in Gibraltar.
